Susan Grossman

Susan Grossman

Susan Grossman grew up in New York. Throughout her childhood, she heard her parents and other relatives talk about their lives in Vienna in the 1930s and how they had to leave their homeland. She decided to write their story. It took her more than ten years to write the historical novel Emilie: Leaving the Life I Loved. Although it is a novel, it is based on her parents’ true story and is a tribute to their courage and resourcefulness.

Susan had a long and successful career in the computer field before retiring. In addition to writing, Susan enjoys reading, attending shows, playing games, getting together with friends, and many cultural activities.

Emilie: Leaving the Life I Loved

Emilie: Leaving the Life I Loved is a title that very directly tells a story repeated among the many lives torn apart during World War II, when the familiar comforts of home spiraled into a Nazi nightmare and the need to summon tremendous courage became critical to fleeing capture following Hitler’s invasion of Austria.
