Len and Cherylann Gengel

Len and Cherylann Gengel

Len and Cherylann are the parents of Britney Gengel. In many ways, Britney was a typical teenage girl, but her humor, passion, and deep care for those less fortunate made her memorable to everyone she met. That compassion brought her to Haiti, where she visited an orphanage with fellow Lynn University students on a Journey of Hope. The following day, a catastrophic earthquake claimed an estimated 230,000 lives. Britney, three fellow students, and two professors died in the collapse of their hotel. She was nineteen years old.

In Britney’s memory, her family established Be Like Brit, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to serve the children of Haiti through a safe, nurturing, and sustainable home where they can grow, learn, and thrive.

Heartache and Hope in Haiti: The Britney Gengel Story

One hundred percent of the profits from this book benefit the Be Like Brit Orphanage in Grand Goâve, Haiti.

Britney Gengel was a vibrant nineteen-year-old Lynn University sophomore when she traveled to Haiti in January 2010 to work with an aid group. Deeply moved, she texted her mother that she dreamed of returning to open an orphanage. Hours later, an earthquake leveled Port-au-Prince and the Hotel Montana where Britney’s group was staying.
